Jochen Kitzbihler's sculptural work combines formal concepts of minimalist art in harmony with the material and its natural specifications to create an organically shaped concretion. An energetic connection with the natural is an essential starting point for his work. His theoretical preoccupation with the concept of structure aims at a dynamic understanding of structure. Among other things, he examines the emergence of transformation processes in structural photographs of planetary surfaces and asteroids. For Kitzbihler, these photographic image series are an extension of his sculptural work, which he places in a close relationship to scientific findings in quantum mechanics, morphological geology and astronomy. The central question “Is structure transformation?” develops his artistic work into a transdisciplinary work by integrating scientific aspects. Kitzbihler was born in Ludwigshafen/Rhine in 1966 and lives in Freiburg im Breisgau. In 1995 he was awarded the Palatinate Prize for Sculpture. (Dr. Heinz Höfchen)
