D O R T - Terrains and Sculpture(19.08.-18.09.2010)
The exhibition DORT shows new sculptures and pictorial works by Jochen Kitzbihler. With his sculptures, especially the vertical works, Kitzbihler has for many years pursued the particularities of the real-spatial site and explored the possibilities of localization within given conditions. The sculpture is less an object of contemplation than a sign of a strong presence and a reflector of our state of mind.
In recent years, a coherent continuation of the sculptural work has led to a concentration on mostly serial, graphic pictorial works and photographs.
In the so-called terrain pictures, Kitzbihler works with images of the digitized, high-resolution recording of earth topographies and thus continues to question the theme of place. The digital elevation models of pre-alpine landscapes originate from geological-geographical science and, printed on handmade paper, are placed in the context of contemporary art.
As a paradigm of foreignness, the unknown and our longing for it, series of photographs of the surface of Mars are shown in the exhibition for the first time. Central and revealing is a large-format conceptual image work that brings wishes, questions and statements about an existence in a place outside the Earth into our imagination: WOULD YOU FEEL LOST OR FREE
Eine Serie von Asteroiden und Himmelskörpern entgrenzt die Vorstellungskräfte noch einen Schritt weiter und versinnbildlicht die Relativität unseres Da-Seins zu einem möglichen Dort-Sein.
