Felizitas Diering, Director FRAC Alsace and curator of the exhibition:
Transmergence is a new exhibition format of the FRAC Alsace, which aims to make the regional, cross-border art scene visible and at the same time question its definition and boundaries.
Transmergence #01 brings together five complementary artistic positions, that examine the concept of the earth as a complex system, as matter that has taken shape. Mostly biographically and geographically motivated, starting from the material, they approach the subject conceptually, formally and intuitively.
The works question, explore and transform. Through the artistic gesture, recycled concrete stones, natural stones, salt, paper, saffron, lotus pollen, chlorophyll, light and water find surprising morphology, new plastic and visual materiality, form and formulation. The result is records and dialogs of the complex in the seemingly simple.
